My Love for Cooking: A Legacy from My Mother
My name is Jeannette LaKentra and my passion for cooking began at an early age, growing up in Mississippi, where the kitchen was the heart of our home. Born January 21, 1983, my memories as a young child, I would sit on the countertop and I watched my mother, a true artist in the kitchen, transform simple ingredients into meals that brought our family together. From the smell of homemade cornbread baking to the comforting warmth of slow-simmered stews, every dish she made was a labor of love.
It was in those moments, standing by her side, that I learned not just the recipes, but the deep connection food creates between people. My mother taught me that cooking is more than just feeding the body—it's about nurturing the soul, celebrating traditions, and passing down stories from one generation to the next.
Her influence continues to inspire every dish I create today, and I strive to honor her legacy through my own culinary journey.
